Hi Tanja,
Nice touch that you knew I had bought a bag from you before.
My last bag was a Cargo bag with an Indium front. I loved that bag. I used it every day going to and from work, took it on lots of planes, including around the world twice - fantastic at airports because the laptop can be quickly taken out and returned to the bag when going through security - without disturbing the rest of the contents. And the front pocket holds plenty.
And after 3 or 4 years of use it still looked almost new - needless to say that I was pretty upset when someone stole it, along with my laptop. I think I was almost more upset about losing the bag than the laptop.
Anyway, thanks for the email, and I look forward to receiving my new bag.

John Stewart

Hey Gary,
I heard of you guys from the Gadgeteer via the old Sony TR1 users forum if memory serves. I started with a sleeve and piggy back for my old Sony TR1 and after seeing how well that held up knew you guys were onto something.
I have been in the tech field since the early 80s and have been a bag hound since day one. Like the elusive "perfect" tool box for my shop at the house (I restore old BMWs and no I have not found that box yet) I have always looked for the perfect tech bag. I know I gave away about 15 bags a few years ago in various states from barley used because they were just ill designed to ok designs the died too soon. I have at least another 20 or so in the attic in the same state. Some are cheap and some were money was no object buys from names you call competitors and I call also rans. The longest I kept one bag was about a year for some mid priced Intel case I got at Office Depot that started to fall apart right before I got the Cargo, indeed I pressed it back in service until the Cargo gets back from R&R. I thought it was an ok bag, but after a year and half (and counting) with your Cargo, well it, and the others, suck, no other way to say it.
Your goods are incredible. I live and die by the bag. The fact I can go "lite" with just the sleeve and piggy back or fully loaded in the Cargo is awesome, the fact the bag looks as at home in the board room as it does in the server room is a perfect fit for what I do since I have to work in both worlds. Even more amazing to me is that as rough as I am on bags, after over a year of use it still looks good with little wear, something that relegated many of my former bags to the attic. I can't stand a technical professional with a tattered look, especially if it is me. The fact that I wanted the bag repaired instead of retiring it says a lot.
It's rare now days that a product just works and serves well and long. Hell I'm in the IT field where long and works doesn't even mix, so when I run into something that deserves praise I am more than glad to give it. On that fateful day when my current bag does indeed get past its prime in a few more years it will be replaced by another. In the mean time I dropped a hint to my wife about getting me a large black Sling for Christmas. Pretty cool new design for travel and such.
Now if you guys would just get in the camera bag business, I have two DSLRs and a couple of lenses that need a better home...

Thanks for the smooth transaction and fast shipping.

Gary,
I knew of your site/products because I'd looked you up about a year ago when I ran into someone with a Cargo bag. I was in NY, at a taping of The Daily Show, standing in line. A guy in line with me had a Cargo Mambo Combo. I asked him about it, wrote down your company name, and started coveting one of your bags ever since.
I recently started a new job, and asked my new employer if I could expense a bag for the laptop they'd issued me. To my astonishment, my boss said yes even when I told him it'd be around $300. The only bummer is that he made it clear that the company owns it. So I guess I can't leave the company for the 15-plus years it'll take for the Mambo Combo to wear out.

Gary,
It's not often that consumers "thank" vendors for their products (especially after paying not insignificant sums), but I get so much pleasure out of my Waterfield bags (I just complemented my Cozmo with a Cargo) that I feel obliged to let you know. It's like we have a relationship (especially with the personally signed invoice you send along with the bag). The construction is superb, the attention to detail is beyond compare. The "Peppercorn" Indium is as stunning as the para-glider buckle is cool. My biggest dilemma is deciding which bag to use. (This past weekend I took both, using my Cozmo as an overnighter and the Cargo for my computer, camera, and a few DVDs.) Sometimes I forget that it's the stuff inside the bag that's supposed to be important. Thank you for making "schlepping" an act of intrinsic value.

I bought my larger cargo bag from you about 6 years ago when living in Delaware and have happily used it nearly every day for that time.
I wore out the first shoulder pad about 2 years ago and fixed it with silicone caulk, but now that has worn away. With the purchase of a new larger laptop and the need for a larger sleeve, I can retire that shoulder pad. I should tell you though, the bag looks like new...even after all that extensive traveling and the associated abuse. My laptops (3 successive), in a sleeve, in the bag, were always safe and never were damaged.
You will be interested to know that just recently, as I went through airport security and the bag through X-ray, the TSA agent commented on what a really nice bag I had! This guy must see 1000s per day, so you know that this represents an impressive endorsement. I can also relate to you that in a Starbucks in Charlottesville, VA I confronted a guy stalking me from behind...it turned out he was checking out the bag; he had looked at them online and took the opportunity to get up close and evaluate it. I spent a few minutes in a testimonial and demo showing him the features and he seemed convinced that it was for him.
Thanks for the best bag one could own. It has, and continues to, serve me well and better than I could ever have imagined.

Dear Gary and WaterField Staff,
Thank you so much for my cargo bag. After having it for about a month I can't tell you how amazed and grateful I am for the excellence in this bag. I am currently managing the summer theatre festival for the city of Corona and my cargo bag is the most important tool I have everyday.
I was introduced to your products by a friend who was performing in a play up in San Francisco. I came up to watch my friend perform and while I was there it seemed all he wanted to talk about was how cool his cargo bag was. Only because he had a stinking aircraft buckle for a clip. I LOVED IT! It took me a year to save up to purchase my very own bag and I can honestly say - it was worth the wait.
Thank you to you all for your speedy process, your hospitable customer service, and the passion for excellence.

I purchased the Mambo Combo (Cargo-Medium-Lead) and I have to tell you that this is the most well designed, solidly built, and stylish bag that I've ever seen. I can say without qualification that my money was well spent.
I was particularly happy with the WaterField's customer service and ordering process. My bag was shipped the day I placed the order, email notification was immediate, and delivery prompt. The handwritten note on the invoice was a nice touch as was your personal email.
The Cargo bag is already a hit in my office, and I look forward to my next flight so that I can carry the Cargo instead of my old messenger bag. Living in the Bay Area, it's also nice to see a home-grown SF company hit a home run.

Subject: the best bag EVER
Dear Waterfield
Thank you so, so much. As a freelance writer, my job includes a lot of travel. And when I travel, my bag has to hold everything; computer, camcorder, cables, pens, notebooks, snacks - the works. It's my office and my home away from home. Right after getting my Mambo Combo, I went on a long trip for work; from the Sundance Film Festival to the Winter X-Games and back to LA for the Grammys. My Cargo never left my side. With luck, it never will again.
The best part is the security you feel carrying one. This bag is just plain solid. Every clasp and zipper works crisply. Every pocket is well-crafted. Everything fits smoothly-- and just where it should. I could write a paragraph about the shoulder strap alone. The quality of your product is matched only by your customer service. Not only was it wonderful ordering from you, it is a pleasure knowing your employees make a good wage.
The collection of unused (and expensive bags) in my closet attests to how hard I’ve looked for this kind of quality. My friends have even heard me joke that I’m on a quest for the perfect laptop bag. That quest has now ended. I’ll never use anything else.
Best,
Hampton

Hi Gary,
I've been searching for a bag for my MacBook Pro, and couldn't find anything that met my needs until I found the Cargo. I looked at lat least a dozen other sites but I didn't want a cheesy looking bag, or a corporate looking bag, or one that's got a zillion little pockets that I'll never use.
When I saw the Cargo it just made sense - I love smart design touches like the orange lining so you can see what's inside, and the two equal sized pockets are exactly what I'm looking for to carry a second battery and AC adapter. Since I travel a lot, I need a bag that can sometimes be the only one I take (for a quick day or overnight trip for a meeting), or carry my laptop and essentials on a longer trip. BTW, since I love travelling, the thing that sealed the deal on the Cargo was the Aluminum Aircraft Buckle!
Feel free to use this in your customer testimonials (if you do, it's find to include my full name and email signature)

By the way here is a quick lovefest for my cargo bag.
I purchased my large cargo bag bout 2 years ago and have not had to look for another bag since. This is a big deal cause I am a bag junkie, always looking for the perfect one. Yes I am able to neatly put most everything I need in this bag,,,,(Thinkpad laptop, IPod, Treo 650 cellphone, passport external harddrive, 2 paperbacks, 1-2 magazines and a clean shirt,,,as well as the little stuff keys, pens/etc)...
What was the clincher for me, was one day during a terrible rain storm, me and my bag got soaking wet and everything inside was perfectly dry and a quick wipe with a towel on the outside of the bag and it was like it never got wet.
Lastly I get comped about it all the time (I have the bluesy color)....................
Ok and customer service...............well all I will say is drop them an email and before YOU hit your send button, they will be replying to YOUR email.

Gary,
Thanks for responding personally. The "wow" factor just kicked in when I started travelling. You can quote the following on your website:
Although I did not receive any e-mail confirming my order or its shipment my initial worries quickly turned into a pleasant surprise when my Cargo Mambo Combo made it to France in less than three days.
Owning a Macbook Pro 17" the first looks at the parcel and the bag itself made me worry about the Combo's size: I'm used to take a lot of gear around. However, when I actually packed the Cargo I was astonished how much space it offers.
Traveling at least 75% of my time the last ten years I have gone through a large collection of bags and cases, some of them well over $500. The Combo stands out in design, practicality, quality and attentiion to details.
In addition to questions and compliments from fellow travellers, Lufthansa personnel turned out to be quite interested in the bag as well: the black colour combined with Camel leather exactly match their company's colours...
You've got a new fan over here in Europe, and I will definitely recommend your products to friends and colleagues.

To answer you question about how I found you --
I've ordered from you before. I bought 2 ipod cases and a large

I've had it for years and it still looks good. I think it is

out you don't have the same older ipod style cases for video
ipods. After thinking about it a bit, I understand why, but I
haven't been able to find as functional a case as the old style

I really miss it.

Subject: Still going after over a year
Just wanted to send a note about my experience with your bags
after more than a year of happy ownership. I purchased the Mambo
Combo Cargo after several weeks of reviewing other manufactures,
reading the review sites, and asking around. Each time when I
thought I found "my next bag" I compared it with with
the Cargo. Hands down, the Cargo won every time. I've owned about
a dozen other bags in the past, and all quickly began showing
signs of wear, including frayed and torn stitching, clasps that
no longer held, etc., etc. More importantly, all bags I've owned
in the past tried to do too much. Too many pockets, too many
zippers, or just ill-conceived designs that looked good on display
but just didn't work in real life. This bag is just enough, and
if I want more, or my needs change, I simply order a different
sleeve case or accessory bag.
Having been a grad student and now a part-time college instructor,
my SF Cargo bag has not once let me down. I've abused it more
than most bags deserve, yet it still looks almost brand new (save
for a few normal scuffs on the metal clasp). People still complement
me on my bag and I am confident it will be with me for several
more years.
Thank you for designing the perfect bag.
Sincerely,

Let me count the ways...!
Gary and Company:
I purchased my Cargo bag prior to a motion picture location scouting
trip to the UK and France in June. I was extremely - repeat EXTREMELY
- impressed with the speed with which I received it and the personal
note on the invoice, along with the totally cool young woman who
took my order. Your unmatched customer service is the benchmark
by which I now judge all my internet purchases... and no one has
yet to come close...!
Needless to say... my Euro-design snob business partners in Europe
went bonkers when they saw it... and they couldn't believe how
much stuff it held. Amazing!
But that ain't all, brother. On Sunday July 17th I departed on
a 9-week, 36-city tour with the heavy-metal monsters MEGADETH,
and as I was leaving I realized that I needed a Sleevecase for
my iBook and Waterfield-level protection for my Airport Express,
JBL On Tour speakers, iPod and accessories, etc. I placed the
order as I was leaving Austin to be delivered to a friend's house
in Malibu where i would be staying during rehearsals. That very
night my plans changed and I needed it delivered elsewhere in
LA and I was FREAKING because the tour started two days hence
in Fresno.
I called after-hours and left a message with your ace customer
service department with the change of delivery address. I called
at 9 the next morning to confirm and lo and behold I was informed
by another of your totally cool staffers that my order had already
shipped to the correct address...sure enough Tuesday morning there
it was and I started the tour totally "sorted," as they
say in England, with all the components of my digital life all
snug and protected.
NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALL CUSTOMER SERVICE, MAN!
I can report to you that in my capacity as one of three tour
merchandise managers on the tour your products were REALLY put
to the test. From tour bus to hotel to the production office to
(mostly) outdoor show settlements every night, your products held
up with durability, style and a panache that was the envy of everyone
that saw them ("where DID you get that cool bag, dude?).
Also, much to my amazement I note that despite getting slung
around in road dust and grime, the heat in the Southwest and the
humidity in Florida, that with the exception of a few scratches
on my Cargo's buckle, all my WF products look as good as the day
I bought them and protected my stuff LIKE ALL GET-OUT. Amazing!
With Many, Many Thanks and Warmest Regards,

Hi Gary,
Just wanted to send in a little feedback after my first trip
with your large cargo bag and sleeve case for my new 17"
PB. As indicated in many other of your testimonials I've also
had products from Txxx, Rxxxxx, Bxxxxxx (briefcase and backpack),
etc. and I think they have been very good bags. However none of
them match the usability or design of your cargo case, I purchased
the large suite spot and while I was worried it would be too big,its
size is actually the best I've had. The key points that I found
useful on my recent trip were:
1. The zippered pocket on the front flap, easy to get into and
large enough to store my paperback book, reading glasses, iPod,
and earphones. This made it very easy to shove the bag under the
seat when getting on the airplane and still be able to get to
everything I wanted during the flight. DVD's went into the zippered
pocket on the front of the bag under the flap.
2. The top loading entry to the main part of the bag, I loved
not having to unlatch catches when going through security. Very
easy to unzip the case, open the flap on the sleevecase for the
PowerBook and pull out the laptop for scanning. Just as easy to
stick the PowerBook back in the bag and zip up the top while walking
out of the security area.
3. This may not be a positive for everyone but I really liked
the unstructured design of the interior of the main compartment.
I put the sleeve case for the PowerBook in the center of the main
compartment. In the side with the velcro strap I put two document
wallets from office depot that are 8 1/2 X 11 containers, I used
one for business materials and one for personal items. I also
slipped the medium gear pouch with Ethernet and telephone cables
as well as the PowerBook power adaptor into this side. Index cards
for notes, business cards, and pens went into the pockets on the
other side of the bag. Bottom line for me is lots of flexibility
for use in carrying different items in the bag.
4. The strap is very comfortable and I loved the fact that the
front of the bag didn't stick out when I had that front pocket
loaded.
All in all a great experience with a terrific product! My next
order is already in your system, I'll look forward to using the
products for a long time.

ago (it's what I use instead of a purse), and I've got the iPod
cover (excellent) and several gear bags, which I use to hold everything
from cables/chargers/iPod accessories to expensive fountain pens
to makeup. Thanks for a great product and great service. And,
yes, it did make my day.

Gary,
I got my Cargo bag Monday afternoon. I must say it was even better
than I expected! Your pictures and Flash presentation (which originally
sold me on the bag) on your website don't do it justice. The detail
work is really outstanding, and it's obvious you put a lot of thought
into the design. As the Subsystem Manager for the Space Suit, I
spend a lot of time around soft goods, and I can pretty much tell
what will hold up under heavy-duty use. I look forward to many years
of use from it. Maybe I'll even manage to get a couple of colleagues
to send an order or two your way! ;-)
Thanks for your thoughts about the Columbia. We're all really busy
and the stress level is as high as I've experienced in the 17 years
I've been working at Johnson Space Center.
Cheers,
Scott

Hi Gary:
I am a very happy customer! "The Cargo bag is the best
laptop bag I've ever had. It's smartly designed so you have ample
storage and can easily organize and find what you need. The bag
is very well made, and WaterField has added lots of cool, thoughtful
touches to make using the bag even better. The distinctive colors
make it much easier to reclaim your bag when you go through airport
security and avoid confusing it with all the other look-a-like bags.
Plus, I get lots of compliments on how cool the bag looks. And the
laptop sleeve I got is both stylish and gives my PowerBook great

Thanks Rommel. I can't believe how good your service is. I heard
about you in the macintosh powerbook forums (www.macnn.com, and
others). At first I just glanced over it... But when researching
a messenger bags... Two names kept popping up: xzxz and waterfield.
I actually feel that both your bags and xzxzs are great bags...
But the waterfield design was much nicer for my purposes (stylistically
and functionally).
One thing is for sure - your service is 10 times better and 10 times
faster than xzxz... Not that their service is bad... But yours is
too good. I was surprised when I emailed them about the weight of
their esss bag... They gave me an approximate weight between 3 and
4 pounds.
Your attention to detail definately helped win me over. In addition,
Your website was also more informative... But it could still use
some improvement and more pictures! I look forward to the bag and
feel fairly confident that it will suit me perfectly. I'm happy
that my bag didn't ship out friday and I got the color I wanted..
Thanks... I'll let you know when I get the bag and will surely help

Hi, I got the small cargo bag and ipod case a while back, and I
haven't had a chance to let you know how awesome they are.
I mean, this is the perfect gear bag. No more fishing for my sunglasses,
just unzip and pull out of the inside pouch. Extremely handy to
be able to reach everything quickly. Thing is, it's still not really
full, it still keeps its thin elegant design. If you need to carry
more, you should go up to a bigger version of this bag, but the
small cargo bag is perfect for the person who has gear. It's designed
so that things are easy to access, the build quality is great, and
did I mention it looks good?
This is IMO, the perfect bag. :) Keep up the great work!

Hi Gary
I received the case yesterday (Sunday) morning. The quality of materials
and craftmanship is absolutely top class -- but then, I expected
nothing less from a $200 product!!
What has made this purchase worth every last cent is the thinking
that has clearly gone into the design and aesthetics of the product.
I am amazed at how "intelligently spacious" the small cargo bag
is. By that I mean all pockets and storage compartments are easily
accessible with only one hand. And the amount of gear that this
little bag can accomodate almost defies logic. For the last 2 days
I have been carrying:
my laptop in the sleeve case; all cables (power;
modem; network);
6 CDs;
2 writing pads (A4 & A5; each 1 cm thick);
iPaq (with expansion pack);
financial calculator;
cell-phone;
sunglasses;
a 100-page contract;
stationary;
-- and I had room to spare for at least a couple of large magazines
and a newspaper!!
As for the aesthetics -- I dress quite conservatively, but usually
one element of my attire is quite "racy" (e.g. a daring neck-tie,
or red socks with a business suit). This case appeals to the rebel
in me -- and I love that!!
I wish your company every success in the future.
Best regards,
Rehan

it was just the right size. You know, the bigger the bag, the more
stuff you carry. I extremely pleased with the padding inside my
whole order. The Racer-X and Cargo will surely keep my TiBook protected.
I'm really pleased, so far. Also at the fact that they just down-right

Subject: Re: Appreciation
Dear Gary,
Sorry for not getting back to you in more timely fashion. Last weekend,
I was on the road to my youngest daughter's graduation in Rochester
NY. I got her a Medium Cargo as a graduation present, which she
loves. She is moving to NYC to start her career as an ad photographer.
The bag she was using, which I noticed when we visited her apartment,
was on its last legs, ratty looking and in need of replacement.
Besides, it wasn't big enough to accommodate the book/portfolio
of her work that she has to carry around to job prospects. Molly
needs a Cargo, I thought and promptly went online to your folks,
ordered it and got it in time for graduation. As always, your people
were prompt. Rommel kept me informed. The Cargo was delivered to
my hotel as requested without a hitch. Molly immediately put her
book in the Cargo. It fits (of course). She's pleased and happy.
My purpose in writing is to complete our email conversation of ten
days ago. I had written to you that maybe I should exchange my Medium
Cargo for a Large Cargo and you had counseled me to check again,
to make sure. Tonight, I sat down, emptied out my backpack and my
computer carrying case and set to repacking everything into the
Medium Cargo. Much to my surprise, it all fits. Not only that, everything
is much more accessible than in my previous, two-bag configuration.
No more groping in the dark recesses at the bottom of my backpack
for my camera and film. And, no more two-handed carries.
What a great design. It wasn't until I started packing the Cargo
that I found the two, unzippered pockets under the flap. Perfect.
One for an external hard drive. The other for a floppy drive. I
could go on. Suffice it to say that the Cargo is the bag I needed,
but just didn't know it. Thanks, again, for wonderful products and
service.
All the best,
Andy

Hi, Gary,
I want you to know that I bought my Medium Cargo Bag and iBook sleeve
because of all the testimonials I read on your website. I wasn't
let down. I, too, was tremendously impressed with the solid state
craftsmanship that goes into your bags and sleeves. It's not even
just the fact that you have provided several compartments and pockets--a
lot of bags do that--it's the thought that went into their design
and placement that makes them so uniquely functional. I have never
quite felt so organized before. Usually bags have a bunch of features,
but for whatever reason, they still don't work efficiently. Your

I'm not sure how you do it, but you do it very well. I have never
been so completely satisfied with a product before. Everything from
the workmanship to the materials are outstanding. All this, plus
the fact that the design is hyper functional. As soon as you design
sleeves for a PDA, I'll buy one of those too. There can be no doubt
that your solution would surpass anything the OEM could deliver.
I came to your Web site through our computer technician, Bill Read,
who services our network. He gave me the URL, but I had been sold
on his bag already. Like any relationship, the initial hook was
physical, based entirely on aesthetic appeal. Once the functional
design elements were revealed this sealed the deal. Now that I have
one of my own, I am even more impressed. I look forward to many
years of use and efficiency.
Thank you!
Well done and much success,

Anyway, I got my sleeve so fast and the product is so carefully
