The Good and the Bad

The Good: This appears to be a solid, well-made bag. It holds what it promised to hold (the small handles the 13” MacBook Pro and the 11” iPad Pro just right) plus a reasonable amount of other stuff (notepads, letter-size file folders, portable HD, power brick & cable, pens, etc.).

The Bad: This is disappointing…

First, the pictures on the site make the “chocolate leather on waxed canvas” bag look brown/tan, but the bag I received looks very much army-fatigues-green. That’s not a bad color in general, but it is most definitely not the color that I wanted or expected.

And because the bag isn’t the “right” color, the provided shoulder-strap doesn’t match well with the bag. It’s a reddish-brown, which probably works with a brown/tan bag, but it looks mismatched with an olive-green bag.

And not to be nitpicky, but… For all the attention to detail SF Bags professes, my bag arrived without a front-zipper leather pull. SF Bags sent me a set of leather pulls, which solved the problem; but given that that was right there on the front of the bag, impossible to miss, it doesn’t inspire confidence in what other issues might’ve been missed when the bag was assembled and checked for quality-control.

If I had picked this up at an outlet store for $50, I couldn’t complain. But for $270, with all of the talk about “quality”, I am not impressed, and I would be reluctant to recommend that anyone else roll the dice on a Bolt briefcase from SF Bags. Two out of five stars.

Great Bag!!

Large Bolt briefcase is perfect size for me. My Mac Book 15 in fits easily and I am pretty sure the new 16 in will as well. Very well constructed..no surprise here. Have many SF bags and all still in great shape after years of use. Could use a few more small places..for business cards, and coins usb drives etc. They get lost in big pockets. Had a Tumi backpack before, but could not get file folders in and out very good. No problems with that on this bag. Can even put under airline seat standing up. Room for feet. Awesome. No way with the Tumi.

Bolt - super awesome mid-sized bag

I've owned a nice roomy Messenger bag for 10+ years and wanted to downsize to something a bit smaller. I tried the Solo and it was just a bit too small.
I've had the Bolt now for a few days and find it to be the perfect bag to fit my MB Pro and related goodies with a lower overall weight and size compared to the Messenger.
It also (not surprisingly for a Waterfield product) sports very high build and materials quality and is much more stylish than I am.
The Bolt is "just right".

My new favorite bag!

I’ve struggled for years to find the right EDC bag that balances functionality and a great casual look. The Bolt Briefcase is perfect so far. The medium is a great fit or my 12.9” iPad Pro. The storage pockets are really good for everything else (portable keyboard, mouse, charging cables, etc.). The fact that it stands up on its own seems like a small detail, but it is a game changer for me. It is well-crafted, the interior lining is great, and the handles are sturdy. I wish I had gotten this a long time ago.
