For many years, I’ve preferred backpacks for their comfort, but I’ve decided to invest in myself and make some changes.
The briefcase looks incredible; the design is great—it’s minimalist and doesn’t have all those fasteners that rattle like a bell when you walk. I’m looking forward to seeing how the patina develops over the years.
Pros:
-The design is perfect; the handles are supported by vertical straps that run the entire length of the briefcase’s structure, indicating a well-thought-out design for carrying weight.
-It’s multifunctional—carrying it by hand isn’t tiring; the slight angle of the handles prevents hand strain, distributes the weight, and makes it very comfortable. The strap is phenomenal—it reduces the weight thanks to its elastic band, and the non-slip rubber ensures it doesn’t slip, even when wearing a suit. The back strap allows you to attach it to a suitcase.
-The interior looks great; a gold-colored interior seemed a bit unusual to me at first, but it’s very helpful for keeping track of all your items inside the briefcase.
-The bottle strap is very useful; for years I’ve been making sure my bottle stays upright, and finally, someone thought of it—well done, WF. Thanks to the briefcase’s structure, it stays upright—no more spills.
-I haven’t been an Apple user for several years, but I carry my ThinkPad 14s, and I also have a Dell 15.6—both fit inside with no problems.
-Thanks to its size, I can carry my laptop, charger, over-ear headphones, keys, personal items, water bottle, and tech gadgets (inside the tech bag)—even a small umbrella… all neatly organized.
-Where I live, it rains very heavily, so I chose this briefcase because it’s fully enclosed and has waterproof zippers—I hated it when water seeped through the zippers and my belongings got wet.
Cons:
-The outer pocket… looks nice but isn’t very functional—it only fits a phone or a few cards, and it’s awkward to reach in and take anything out.
-Maybe a strap to secure the laptop compartment would help keep everything in place a little better.
-The internal pockets are sufficient for small items, though some with mesh and zippers would be nice.
When I received my first Lexington All Leather Briefcase in black I admit I wasn’t quite sure quite what to think. At first blush it was hard for me to determine what was so different about it compared to so many off the rack almost disposable briefcases one sees everywhere. Then I started using it and discovered its understated elegance and well-thought design. It looks professional which is appropriate both for the courtroom and for meeting with clients. It holds everything I need to carry most days. I comfortably fit a MacBook Pro (14 or 16, I’ve tried both), my iPad Pro 11, chargers phones, etc, and client files. It hold more than my older, heavier, larger barrister bag largely because the storage pouches and pockets are so well thought out. When I unzip it, it is very easy to find and retrieve whatever it is I need. I even use the key leash, swing the Lexington around from its amazingly comfortable and well-built included strap, unzip, fish out the leash and retrieve my keys in a super easy way. The construction, high quality materials, functional design, and understated beauty are really becoming apparent to me the more I use it. In fact, I like it so much I just ordered and received the other two colors. They are all beautiful “lifetime” quality cases that I will look forward to mixing and matching in various settings. I like the black and chocolate for more formal settings. the Grizzly will likely be my casual go to. I can’t wait see see that one age and add character over time…
After a very long search for the right briefcase, I finally found it. I wanted something that looked professional enough to bring into a very corporate setting, but not so formal or luxurious looking that it would look out of place with business casual clothes. The dark brown leather hits that balance perfectly.
The materials and construction are excellent, and I really love the look and feel of the leather. There’s plenty of room for my laptop, work papers, charger, and even some gym clothes, plus a water bottle or coffee thermos. The shoulder strap is extremely comfortable and makes the bag easy to carry even when loaded up.
Most importantly, it’s just a really enjoyable bag to use. It looks great, feels great in the hand, and has exactly the combination of professional and casual that I was looking for. Really happy I found this one.
Bag is exceptional quality, I left an additional note with my order and email follow up, to leave out the big utility buckle. But was denied and told that my request can’t be done as it would hold up production. When really it would hasten it with Less attachments but okay…
Thank you for your attention to detail, quality materials, and durable construction. I can see this bag will meet my daily needs for many years to come. Keep up the great work, Waterfield Team!
Design details
HERITAGE MEETS INNOVATION
The Lexington Leather Brief blends heritage craftsmanship with modern styling. Made from traditional full-grain leather, the addition of a real paragliding buckle to the clean, structured profile reflects a modern, energetic vibe.
The removable Supreme Suspension Strap helps to relieve the shoulders of heavy loads, and the elevated interior pockets make it easy to retrieve small items in a rush.
FUNCTIONAL & STYLISH
While yesterday's briefcase held documents and lunch, today's holds devices and water. The Lexington Brief has two built-in padded compartments for a laptop and tablet, and a collapsible water bottle pocket.
To keep up with today's fast pace, time-saving features like a double-pull zipper that lets you open the brief from the right, left, or center are a relief. Now items can be retrieved quickly, especially when the bag is packed.
The front pocket holds frequently accessed items, eliminating the need to open the entire bag. Inside, the bright gold liner enhances visibility so you can quickly scan the contents to find what you need.
FULL-GRAIN LEATHER
The authentic, full-grain leather we use to make the Lexington Brief is absolutely beautiful. See it, touch it, and you're hooked.
The distressed leather develops a beautiful patina, and your bag will age well as the years roll by.
ALL-LEATHER COLLECTION
The All-Leather Collection brings together premium full-grain leather designs that balance refined style, everyday functionality, and rugged dependability. Each bag is built to last, with smart details that make everyday carry easier. Check out the full collection.
CARING FOR YOUR LEATHER BAG
We usually recommend leaving the full-grain leather of your Lexington Leather Brief as is and allowing it to develop its own beautiful patina. However, if you’d like to freshen it up from time to time, you can use a leather conditioner — Gary demonstrates how in this video for the Cozmo Leather Briefcase.
Because the leather may darken slightly, first test the conditioner on a discreet area like the bottom of the bag. You can also use a hair dryer to warm the leather’s natural oils so they smooth and spread evenly.
