"If you’re in the market for a travel carry-on that’s designed with a ton of thought and attention to detail, that’s made in America by people who are paid decent wages, and that will last for many years to come (I’m about to enter year 8 for my Muzetto) the Air Porter is certainly worth a look."

"The WaterField Designs Air Porter was created in collaboration with customers who travel and is perfect for those who find themselves on airplanes to get work done."
I started with a small size bolt a bit over a year ago. Recently, I discovered that I frequently needed more than I could comfortably fit in that bag. Most of the time, I carry a 13 inch MacBook Pro, a 2018 12.9" iPad Pro, and a fifth gen iPad mini. Those all fit fine in the small bolt. It's when I need space for documents that I have problems.
The air porter is plenty large enough without being too large for days when I might just carry two devices. The padded shoulder strap really helps for days when I carry a lot. The air caddy serves as a convenient store bag for dongles and other tech gear. The iPad mini is in its own case along with a Public-Supply 5X8 notebook. Once I arrive at one of my locations, I often whip that or the 12.9" iPad Pro out to run to various meetings. The MacBook Pro is a home base.
I'm able to fit both the 13" MacBook Pro and the iPad Pro (with smart keyboard case) in the laptop compartment, which is generously sized.
As a frequent business traveler, I pride myself as a minimalist packer. Every ounce I can shave off my gear is a win, and I'll never check in a bag. The Air Porter allows me to optimize my travel profile even more. It's light, surprisingly roomy, and versatile. Paired with a Waterfield backpack (I use the Staad slim pack), you'll have enough room for a few days worth of clothing, a dopp kit, and all the tech gear you could use. The only thing I give up is a change of shoes, and if you really need that, you could pair the Air Porter with a Bolt or Rolltop and you'd be back in business. I really like the inclusion of the strap. It's nice when you need use of your hands, but when walking across the airport I find it more conformable using the handles. The center compartment is thick enough to hold a compression bag with a couple changes of clothing. The outer pockets are just right for a 17 oz. water bottle and a compact umbrella. Do order this bag with the Air Caddy. I find that since the Air Porter fits under the seat in front of me, I can get by without it. However, the Air Caddy is a flexible organizer and you'll find it's great to toss into a backpack or even to use by itself on a long car trip. Needless to say, your laptop, tablet/reader, cables, gadgets, adapters and headphones/earpieces will fit into the various internal pockets, and it's worth experimenting with placement to determine the right home for every piece of gear. I suggest when you get everything just right, take a picture to help save time on your next trip. Anyway, a wonderful bag with the quality, aesthetics, and consistency I expect of Waterfield.
I have had the Air Porter for a few weeks now and have to say, "It's the BEST ever!" This bag is constructed in the very finest materials and looks fantastic! It's completely functional for traveling, being on a plane or for everyday use to the office.
I am extremely happy with the purchase and will continue to be a loyal customer for years to come!
Exquisitely high quality that I have come to expect from Waterfield. I have used it briefly on trial runs to the office, and has been great for carrying computer (15" MBP), iPad, phone and a variety of additional accessories/stuff. It will take its first voyage to Europe soon and I will report more. Padding is light but effective, and the main storage area should easily double as an overnight bag discreetly separate from the computer area for an overnight business trip.
How do you suggest I clean the ballistic nylon?
The ballistic nylon is *very* durable and will take scrubbing with a stiff brush and mild soap. Blot with towels/rags and let the case dry out. This should have the case looking good as new.
How do you suggest I clean the waxed canvas?
Waxed Canvas isn’t the easiest item on the planet to clean - part of the character-building process with Waxed Canvas is how it ages with scuffs, dirt, stains and all. Still, there are things you can do. This article gives you a good idea of how to clean and re-wax if and when you are ready. They suggest using dish soap and soft brush to clean, then drip dry, then take a hot hairdryer to heat up the wax and redistribute it. This will soften any blemishes and help with the dirt. The lines and crinkles on the waxed canvas are actually normal, and happens in shipping sometimes. All you have to do is use a hair dryer and you can flatten out the wax with your hand.
How do you suggest I clean the leather?
Actually, we suggest not doing anything. Part of the beauty of highly distressed leather develops as it gets used over time— with rain or getting bumped around. Leather conditioners will darken and alter the leather, maybe not something you desire. If at some point you want to condition the leather - we suggesting using Mink Oil. This will darken a bit at first - but will keep the leather very nice. You can also spread the oils around and smooth them out a bit with a hair dryer and your hand. Any leather discoloration or marks are straight from the actual hide itself; it's part of the character of the leather. That’s how you know it’s the real thing. Each hide has it own look; it's unique just like you. With naturally tanned leather, there's always going to be a bit of character on it that's hard to control. It's one of the reasons we like it so much, you'll always be getting a one-of-a-kind bag.
Will the Air Porter fit under the seat in front of me on a plane?
While we have tested the bag on several different planes, it should fit under most seats in front of you on a plane.
