Plenty of Room and Comfy for the Long Haul

So I needed to make a long day trip wherein my small crossbody purse would not suffice were I forced to layover, but did not want to take my full-size carry-on either. We own several other Waterfield bags and this one also did not disappoint. It is well stitched throughout, with a nice wide strap. My small purse fit inside nicely with plenty of room for my other gear, including the two handy pockets. It was on my old self for several hours and the strap made it quite comfortable. I’m sure this handy crossbody bag will get used for many years to come!

Spacious and Comfortable EDC

I decided to try this out as a crossbody alternative to a (beautifully) aging Sutter Sling Pouch. This messenger bag has a surprising amount of space. Thanks to the generous 3” width, it can easily carry a 13” MacBook Pro in a sleeve, an iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard, a fully packed Shinjuku Tech Organizer, a Dynamic Duo leather glasses case, two phones, and there is still room left over. For EDC without the MacBook and iPad this bag is a lot more comfortable than the Sutter Sling Pouch. It feels like a pillow. Life Hack Alert: Just like the Sling Pouch, I can wear this while driving and have all my essential items handy in front of the steering wheel. The build quality and materials are second to none. It’s an easy five stars! Thank you Gary & WaterField for designing this great bag.

THE BACKSTORY


The foundation of the Packable Bag Collection is the wrinkle-free material that turns any of the packable bags to a professional-looking, lightweight bag. 

 

In this video, Gary explains the features of a WaterField Packable bag, starting with the custom-made, magical material. The Packable Backpack is an example.  

THE MAGICAL MATERIAL

 

Working with a community of 1000+ customers, we set out to design packable bags for travel and everyday use.

We developed a custom material that combined Taslan — a modern, high-tech woven fabric that feels good and substantial — with a layer of tricot mesh for structure and added a water-resistant coating. 

 

All WaterField Packable Bags use this durable, lightweight textile to get that clean, professional look, even after being stuffed or folded.   

DETAILS MATTER 

 

Thoughtful details set the Packable Messenger apart from mass-market packable bags. In addition to the wrinkle-free material, it has premium components that are standard in Waterfield bags, like the 1.5" nylon strap and waterproof YKK zipper.  

 

The wider strap makes it more comfortable to carry, and can easily be adjusted while wearing the bag to ensure a proper fit.  The top quality YKK zipper helps keep water out. 

These features let you easily convert the Packable Messenger from a use-once-in-a-while packable bag to an everyday carry. 
 

HOW TO FOLD

 

The Packable Messenger folds into its own pocket for easy storage. Unfolded, the wrinkles disappear and Packable Messenger can be used as a stylish everyday carry. 

 

1. Lay the Packable Messenger flat and take out the interior pocket. 

2. Fold the sides and strap toward the middle. 

3. Roll from the bottom toward the pocket.

4. Insert the roll into the pocket.

 

THE PACKABLE BAG COLLECTION

These bags are designed to be both packable for taking on trips and usable for daily carry. The WaterField Packable Collection uses custom-made lightweight, durable, water-resistant material that stays crisp and wrinkle-free when unpacked. 

All the Packables fold into their own pockets so they can be stashed in your luggage without taking up much room. The Packable Backpack can hold small tablets and laptops in their own protective sleeve. The Packable Duffel is expandable to accommodate last minute souvenirs, and the Packable Messenger is a nice everyday carry. 

YOU MADE IT HAPPEN

We asked our community what their ideal packable bag would include. They told us they wanted the convenience of a packable bag with the functionality of a regular WaterField bag. 

 

Using the right textile was key, so we set about creating one that combined packability with style.

 

The community also had different ideas of the type of packable bag they wanted, so we ended up creating a collection. See the process from start to finish here.
