My favourite bag!

This is a beautifully-built bag with plenty of thoughtful touches that I absolutely love.

First some background: I had been using a range of Staad Attaché bags (full-size, then compact) for the past couple of years, but wanted a bit more protection and style. I ordered this new Executive Messenger bag the day it came out - it looked absolutely perfect for me. Sadly, the "Compact" version turned out to be just a teeny bit too small for the new 16-inch MacBook Pro, so I upgraded to the full-size version, which does the job with great style and panache. (Waterfield couldn't have been more helpful here; they let me swap out the two bags, and even replied to a technical query I sent on a Sunday morning - in fact, I got a personal message from Gary himself - that's what I call customer service!!!)

After a week of using the bag, I'm loving it more and more. I have the Grizzly version and it looks gorgeous. The shoulder strap is really comfortable and the bag holds way more than I need to carry. It also stays upright when I put it down (something that my previous bags failed to do).

Minus Points? I still prefer the look of the "Compact" version over the full-size version (which just looks a bit too tall - there really isn't the need for the extra height in this bag, and for me it's just wasted space). I'm not a fan of the off-centred handle; I realise this makes the bag more comfortable to carry, but it just looks weird. Other issues are that the (otherwise very comfortable) shoulder strap is always getting twisted (it would be nice to have a swivel attachment, as for the Staad Attaché and other bags) - and surely, the strap should be made of leather, like the rest of the bag?

…but these are small quibbles and don't affect the overall impression, which is one of impeccable workmanship, outstanding design and passion. This is my favourite bag.

Intended for grad school

I wanted a bag to upgrade too after my backpack finally began to give way after undergrad and a semester of grad school. I am very happy - bought the full size to accommodate my laptop, tablet, a spiral notebook, some small moleskins, and computer accessories. The clasp is nice and doesn't feel weak at all, the leather is firmly attached, and the felt of the pockets feels nice. My only, minor, minimal complaint is the shoulder strap squeaks a little, but I think that may be because I am using the bag to its maximum weight.

Also, my laptop is a Dell XPS 15, which does fit the full size compartment - if a bit snugly. Make sure to remove any USB connectors you may have or you might have to fenagle it in.

This case is the perfect combination - it's functional, high quality and it looks really cool! I like most the ageing grizzly leather and the sunny inner lining.

amazing

If I had to do it over again, I would have gotten the full sized bag, not the compact. However, that's not Waterfield's fault, that's mine. The bag itself is stunning. I expected to like it, but not as much as I do. It's exceptionally well made, and attractive. Now that I have it, I find myself wanting to have excuses to get them for other people as gifts. I love the lining and the buckle, they are both functional and tactile joys to interact with. I'm sold, I'll get more bags from here as soon as I have an excuse.
