15 years as a traveling consultant made me feel like I needed a TUMI as part of my uniform. I was looking for something different—crafted, thoughtfully designed, memorable, local, with personality—and this bag couldn’t be better.
It’s like all the qualities you’ve come to expect in a well-designed bag built with the end user in mind, but with a distinctive edge that makes you stand out from the crowd without trying too hard.
I spent hours researching, lots of LLM prompting, YouTube reviews—you name it—because that’s what it takes to avoid simply falling for the default TUMI pull or other alternatives that are either poorly designed but screamingly contemporary (for those trying too hard to be techie) or overly gaudy and expensive (for the banker crowd).
This bag was just right. I literally had emails from actual humans. A real person actually wrote to me when I had questions about which bag to by a wanted some advice with such a well thought and custom response to my needs. What? How real, human, and craftsmanship-driven is that?
I loved the entire experience of buying this product. Everything they say—trust it. It’s exactly what you get.
Every feature in the bag works beautifully. It fits my 13-inch MacBook like a glove, and still has room for a notebook, a small pouch for cables and accessories, a book, an iPad, sunglasses (I actually use the water bottle sleeve for those), and all the little essentials I carry while traveling: an eye mask for flights, earbuds, my wallet, wired earphones in case my AirPods die, an energy bar in case United runs out of food and I get hungry, gum, two or three office badges for my office and client sites, pens, a Tide pen for coffee mishaps before meetings, and the little notes and drawings from my boys that remind me home is where love is. And the bag still stays compact, not one bulge, nothing changed the sleek minimalist silhouette! I really don’t think it could fit as I was moving down size from a Tumi that was sized more like the Medium. Wow!
This beats TUMI. It makes me feel liberated from corporate consumerism and back to the way we used to make and buy things—full-stack craftsmanship and personal. I haven’t felt this way about a purchase or a product since I bought my first Dyson 25 years ago.
Thank you, WaterField.
Exactly what i wanted
Fantastic bag with great craftsmanship. This is my 3rd back (I bought 2 of these models) from Waterfield, and they have yet to let me down. These bags are made for life, and their styles keeping getting better as well as adapt to the needs of their buyers!
It's slim but fits a lot. It's refined but not stuffy. It has drawn several compliments without being LOOK AT ME showy. I am legitimately disappointed in myself for hemming and hawing over whether it would be worth the money. Yes- yes it is.
Just a little tight for the iPad slot for the 12.8. MacBook prefect for 13” MacBook Air.

THE MODERN BRIEF
The Shinjuku Laptop Brief adds modern touches to the classic briefcase for today's fast-paced lifestyle. It's made to last— made with waxed canvas or ballistic nylon with full-grain leather accents.
The aesthetic is a well-organized, efficient briefcase designed to address today's new work styles.
SMALL DETAILS. BIG IMPACT.
Special features give the Shinjuku Laptop Brief an edge over other briefcases. Magnetic closures for the back and front pockets make it quick and easy to access your wallet, phone, or keys. An internal water bottle holder keeps the Brief's profile clean and streamlined.
For all-day carrying comfort, the handle is wrapped in full-grain leather, and a 1.5-inch Supreme Suspension Strap is included to help distribute the load when carrying on the shoulder.
GO BALLISTIC
Ballistic Nylon is a resilient textile that blends durability, lightness, and weather-resistance. Its sleek, understated aesthetic makes it an ideal choice for the Shinjuku Laptop Brief, a bag designed to be comfortable, lightweight, and stylish.
TRADITIONAL 15 OZ. WAXED CANVAS
Not all waxed canvas bags are created equal. Lower quality bags use 6 oz. canvas. The majority designated as “durable” use 12 oz. canvas. At 15 oz., our waxed canvas exceeds what is commonly sold in the market, yet it's still lightweight. It has a naturally rugged, distressed look and can be re-waxed to freshen it up.
The canvas comes from a reputable U.S. mill that has produced these fabrics since 1930. This specialized textile is coated with Martexin Original Wax™ and shouldn't require much cleaning. Stains can be wiped off with a damp cloth.
HOW TO FRESHEN UP CANVAS
If you have the Shinjuku Laptop Brief in traditional waxed canvas, you can keep it looking like new by applying wax when you think it needs a little refresh. Although you can use any wax, you may want to try Martexin Original Wax™ which was initially used to coat your canvas bag.
SHINJUKU COLLECTION
Inspired by the vibrant, fast-paced Tokyo neighborhood, the Shinjuku Collection is designed to help you nimbly navigate your way through crowds. These stylish bags are compact, lightweight, and comfortable to carry.
Crafted from traditional Waxed Canvas or modern Ballistic Nylon with full-grain leather accents and premium hardware, these bags are made to last.
