WaterField Designs Pro Executive Laptop Backpack: A perfect business backpack created with the help of customers
ZDNet - June 4, 2018
"it is clear to me that the WaterField Designs Pro Executive Laptop Backpack gets everything right and is the best bag I have ever tested…”
I tired of ripping/tearing parts on cheaper bags. This bag was highly recommended and perfect for my needs. Sufficient pockets without looking like a hiker. And I cannot say enough how nice it is to have a bag remain standing upright!
5 out of 5 - perfect commuter, travel, work bag. All the compartments are in the right place.
If you're a side pocket person and need plenty of storage options inside then this is the perfect backpack.
Not to mention - this backpack looks professional and not like you're rushing to high school chemistry class.
The backpack is extremely handsome. Red leather is not at all too garish, just fashionable. It holds a LOT - including my travel pillow, 24 oz water bottle, lots of electronics, bulky over-ear headphones, etc - without looking bulky or overfull. I do for some reason really like Waterfield's "ugly" yellow liner. The flat document pocket is actually quite convenient at, say, the airport, but I gotta say I was a little nervous keeping my passport in a space that seems relatively easy to pickpocket. Overall extremely pleased with this purchase.
My biggest complaint is with how easy it is to accidentally zip the zipper pulls of the main pocket into the side pockets. The zipper pulls on this bag are kind of long, and when the main compartment is sealed with the zippers both all the way to one side or the other, the pulls dangle into the side pockets when they're open. I zipped the main compartment's pulls so often that I found myself zipping it shut with both zippers meeting in the middle, which I think is suboptimal in terms of getting a true seal, but I just wasn't interested in occupying both hands to zip up the sides, one to hold the main compartment's zipper pulls out of the way. I usually LOVE Waterfield's zippers, but in general the pulls on this bag are too long and a few have come untied on their own this past month.
Next complaint - holding the bag by the top handle makes the extremely convenient top pocket of the bag very awkward to access. Something about the way the handle pulls at the edges of the pocket. So I've got all these useful things in there, that I'd instinctively want to reach for while wearing the bag, and you've really gotta either put it on the ground or support it from the bottom with one hand to get at that hand sanitizer or whatever. I mention this just because Waterfield gets this right so often -- easy access while wearing is what I love about the cargo messenger bag, and it's what makes the document pocket on this bag so convenient.
These bags are awesome! Everything I’ve ordered from Waterfield, down to the iPhone case, has been super high quality, and look/feel fantastic. You can tell this company really cares too, they’re super responsive to questions and extremely helpful.
I plan on continuing to be a Waterfield customer for the long haul!
I debated wether to buy such an expensive backpack, but glad I did. It is solid constructed and very functional. I hope to not buy another laptop backpack after this one! Highly recommend it.
What do you mean by "crowd-sourced design”?
We often work with customers to help us design key products. We refer to this process as “crowd-sourced design”. We received over 2000 replies to our request to help design the next professional backpack. See the journey from idea to product here. Customers who signed up to participate gave us requirements and provided feedback during the process. We love working with customers this way because the end product is something they helped build.
Does the Pro Executive Backpack stand up when I set it down?
Yes. Having the Pro stand on its own is one of the primary features requested by customers. This lets them neatly place the backpack on the floor next to them when they take it to meetings.
What is the purpose of the Executive Folio?
In our surveys, people indicated they used their backpack throughout the day. However, many requested that the backpack be lightweight. Because people spent most of their time at meetings, we figured we can keep things light by having a removable Executive Folio that would contain all the essentials for a short meeting. Leave the backpack in your office, and take the Executive Folio with you to the conference room. You can also buy the Executive Folio separately here.
Why use full grain leather for the accents?
Real, premium leather does look good, doesn’t it? Full-grain leather has a super tight grain so it resists moisture very well, and it's strong and durable. We believe in making products of the highest quality—we never skimp on materials, even accents. Full-grain leather is ideal for handles; your fingers will feel the difference. We love how the leather develops a beautiful patina that adds to the Pro Backpack's character over time.
Why use a gold liner?
First, the liner adds a bit of protection for the different items you carry inside. Second, we chose gold because this lighter, brighter color makes it easier to quickly see the contents inside your pouch.
