This ain't no ordinary Tote.
It may be called a Cycling Tote and that's what it specialises in, but that's just the tip of it's iceberg terms of it's ability to offer multiple differing loadouts because of it's unique design geometry and carefully selected materials to make it all work.
Why, well the slim profile of 6.75" depth plus L 15.5" x H13.5" I've found can seemingly expand to accommodate much wider items than I expected. Its due to the design like open top & structured self standing but is plyable because of the quality of the selected materials used e.g. I have dropped my ridged Nutcac work tote 24l capacity with a depth of 9.00" (plus L13" x H12.5") into the Cycling Tote comfortably and with a few inches spare left in length. Its a bit like the "Tardis" effect (slimmer on the outside but bigger on the inside) once you start really packing it out - clearly evident of Waterfield's wizardry!!!
Another unexpected surprise for me was the external end pockets. In the advertising video reel it mentions they are good for dropping a snack bar and a couple of other very small items they have a slim profile when empty. Well I've put l.25 litre soft drink bottle in both of the end pockets- a lot more capacity than what I was expecting and that another winner for me!
The Preimium version which I chose with canvas & leather has the extra external pocketing front and back & the straps with rubbery gripping material on underside which soundly eliminates the straps slipping off the shoulders "curse" - are so worth it.
I think their standard versions should have these, as they are just so effective.
I live in Australia so I didn't have the luxury of physically checking it out, but I purchased the Tote because I recognised it wasn't just a 1 trick pony it would have some versatility on the other days, but what I received was a Tote with far more versatility than what I expected, so I'm absolutely thrilled with it.
Amazing. Sturdy and looks great
I purchased this for my sister who is a serious cyclist. She has her gear spread between multiple bags. This gift made her so happy! It’s really spacious and well made. A must have for a cyclist.
I really like the tote, as it is very convenient for organizing and transporting my bicycling gear. In addition to my own, I have purchased a total of 3 more as gifts to my biking buddies. My only complaint is that is overpriced for a nylon tote. I don’t mind paying a premium for a quality tote manufactured in the US, but even with this in mind, the price is excessive. That said, I still bought them, so I guess the market has the upper hand (I might have bought more at a lower price.) One suggestion for improvement is to come up with a way to protect the gear in the open bag in wet weather; such as a zip out rain fly or a zipper closure.
Starting this review by acknowledging that WF does have a specific gym bag at this point but this tote is so so nice to keep my gym stuff organized. I work out in a pretty common national chain of US gyms and teach yoga three times a week. The tote is perfect for class because it fits my clothes, shoes, drinks, mats, blocks, outside stuff (keys, phone, wallet), shower stuff, towels, and even snacks!!!! And the best part? When I bring it to the gym it fits perfectly into the locker!
Unsurprisingly the tote is extremely well-made and in the ballistic nylon it’s lightweight, easy to clean, and looks super sleek when I take it into work alongside my all-black Staad backpack. The only thing I would change, and it’s minor, would be some sort of way for the tote to close - like a magnet or something. But genuinely a great product that I can see myself using for years and for way more things than just the gym!

ORGANIZE YOUR RIDING GEAR
When you have to drive to start your ride, you want to make sure you're well-prepared and haven't forgotten anything. This is where the Cycling Tote comes in handy. This cycling bag's open design lets you carry all the items you'll need for your ride and for just-in-case situations. It's always a good idea to take along extra gear in case it rains or gets too cold or too hot. If you're dressed comfortably, your ride will be more enjoyable.
The four side pockets for shoes and water bottles ensure these items won't be left behind; they shouldn't be empty when you head out. The pockets are tall so water bottles stay upright, preventing accidental leakage. Your helmet and everything else goes in the main, spacious compartment. Store energy bars in the side pockets and valuables in the front zippered pocket.
Heavy Duty 15 oz. Waxed Canvas
Not all canvas totes are created equal. Lower quality totes use 6 oz. canvas. Totes designated as “durable” use 12 oz. canvas. At 15 ounces, our waxed canvas exceeds the industry standard, yet still feels lightweight. It has a naturally rugged, distressed look and can be re-waxed any time you want to freshen it up.
Our canvas comes from a reputable mill that has produced these waxed fabrics since 1930. This specialized textile is coated with Martexin™ Original Wax and won't require much cleaning. Stains can usually be wiped off with a damp cloth.
FULL-GRAIN LEATHER
The Leather Cycling Tote uses full-grain, natural leather on the front and rear panels. It's the toughest part of the hide with the tightest grain, so it will last a good long time and endure multiple bumps and scratches.
We use the “distressed” version, and you'll know it's real because the hide bears some cow marks. After a few years and expeditions, a beautiful patina will develop that will reflect your cycling adventures.
HOW TO FRESHEN UP YOUR CANVAS
Keep your canvas tote bag looking new by applying wax when you think it needs a little refresh. Although any wax is applicable, you can use Martexin Original Wax, which is the original wax used to coat your canvas tote bag.
CARING FOR THE LEATHER
We usually recommend not doing anything to the full-grain leather of your bag, letting it develop it's own beautiful patina over time. However, you may want to freshen it up a bit with a leather conditioner. The leather may darken a bit, so test the reaction first on a spot that's not highly visible, like the bottom of the bag. For the distressed leather that we use, you can also spread the oils around and smooth them out a bit with heat from a hair dryer.
NOTE: This video of the Cozmo brief uses the same full-grain leather as the Leather Cycling Tote.
made in usa
We're proud to offer American-made gear built for the long haul. All our products are designed and made in our San Francisco workshop, where rent is high, labor expensive, and competition intense. We wouldn't go anywhere else.
