Second Time is the Charm!

I sold my original Staad backpack in the foolish pursuit of something “better.” By the time I realized that the Staad is indeed the perfect backpack, they were long since sold out. Jumping on the new release was the easiest backpack decision ever.

Now that I have the Staad again, it’s even better than I remember. Plenty of room for daily work carry—16 MBP, iPad Pro 12.9, A5 Hobonichi, plus various pens and chargers fit with ease. I forgot how much I liked the side pockets for phone/wallet access. There is nothing extra about this backpack: every detail is well thought out and meticulously executed. And the signature waxed canvas is fantastic.

It’s also nice to have the ammo pouch buckle back.

Waterfield's Staad Slim Backpack Is Impeccably Designed And Here For The Long Haul [Review]

Cult of Mac - October 30, 2013

"If budget isn't an issue, the Staad backpack is a solid addition to anyone's tech kit. The heavy construction and custom-designed fittings seem like artifacts from an earlier, less obsolescent era while the more modern options promise a long, productive, useful lifespan."

Waterfield Designs Staad Backpack review

iMore - November 9, 2013

"It's easy to find a laptop-carrying backpack these days; everyone and their brother makes one. It's a different story to find one that looks this good, dresses up nice, and is this well-made. Admittedly, you pay for that quality of construction and appearance. But if you're looking for a laptop backpack that looks as good in the boardroom as it does on the subway, the Staad fits the bill."

Those in the know will find it very easy to open the flap, others will find it challenging. Back in the day when you needed a quick release with safeguards, this was the buckle of choice.

"I found it to be very comfortable on my back, with plenty of padding. The "ammo pouch" release is easy to use, and very secure." - John

Keep your bag looking new by applying wax when you think it needs a little refresh. Although any wax is applicable, you can use Martexin Original Wax which was initially used to coat your canvas bag.

We usually recommend not doing anything to the full-grain leather flap of your bag, letting it develop it's own beautiful patina over time.

However, you may want to freshen it up a bit with a leather conditioner. The leather may darken a bit, so test the reaction first on a spot that's not highly visible, like the other side of the flap.

For the distressed leather that we use, you can also spread the oils around and smooth them out a bit with heat from a hair dryer. Here's a video of Gary showing how you can do this using the Cozmo all-leather brief as an example.
