The Air Porter Backpack is the perfect carry-on size for travel. It meets most personal-size carry-on requirements of most airlines and fits under the seat in front of you. The two top front pockets are accessible without having to pull out the entire backpack and conveniently store items you'll need during the flight.

FEATURES

Tight, tidy and robust

Strong, neat, well designed and good looking without being flashy. This is my second Waterfield (my other one is a laptop bag) and like the first one, I expect it to survive twenty years of constant use without showing rips, tears or scratches.

Almost but not complete yet

The concept and build quality are very good, however:
1) straps stop 1-2” short of being fully adjustable—I couldn’t tighten them enough;
2) the large aircaddy barely fits in the front pocket, so is very awkward to retrieve when the bag is on the floor of the airplane; and
3) the case could greatly benefit from a loop handle on the front, because trying to retrieve the case with the “top” handle, which is crushed under the case on the floor, is annoyingly difficult.

With these improvements, the AirPorter would be a real 5-star case.

The Perfect backpack

It is fantastic. Easy to carry on back or by hand. Love the hard sides, can carry my laptop, iPad, and Vision Pro easily with PLENTY of room left over. Very easy to access!

I spent months agonizing about a new bag

I have been wanting this bag since I bought the Waterfield Apple Vision Pro case and the thing that held me back was the price and the return policy. As the title states, I spent a lot of time researching different backpacks and struggled with my decision. I watched a number of Youtube videos reviewing different bags for different purposes and basically had to figure out what I wanted from a new backpack and the journey was truly educational and I enjoyed learning about how people travel and what to look out for. Initially, I purchased a Bellroy Venture Travel Pack and while it claimed to be able to hold my 16" MacBook Pro and my 12" Ipad Pro, getting either of them out of the bag was a struggle, it technically fit, but the thought of getting them out of the bag as well as it being technically a few inches too long for several airlines, ultimately led to me returning it. Which brought me back to Waterfield and this bag, that I had always wanted anyway.

Bag arrived and was in pretty good shape, two of the zippers were popped in the middle, which said something to me about quality control, but a few zipper pulls back and forth put everything back to how it should be. Got my AVP in it's (Waterfield) case, loaded up my laptop and ipad and everything fit very well and was much easier to get in and out of the bag than the Bellroy. The boxy shape of the bag isn't the most comfortable until you fit the straps properly and then found it much more comfortable. I am overall happy with my purchase and have a trip to Japan scheduled in May and we'll really see how well the bag travels.

SIZE GUIDE

The Air Porter Backpack meets the maximum allowable personal size item for most airlines. It has two padded compartments for laptops and tablets. These devices can fit in these padded pockets: 
 

  1. Laptop pocket fits laptops up to 14.5" x 10":

UNDERSEAT CONVENIENCE

 

The Air Porter Backpack's two top pockets are designed specifically to give you easy access to the items you'll need during your flight. Once you've stowed your backpack under the seat in front of you, you can leave it as is while you zip open the top pockets to get your earbuds, headset, phone charger, etc. 

 

No need to take your backpack out of its place. Just reach down and grab what you need during the flight. 

COMFORTABLE ON YOUR BACK 

 

To help distribute the weight on your back, we added a triple layer of structural material on the back side and surrounded the Air Porter Backpack with foam padding on the bottom and front. 

 

This framework also helps the backpack stand upright when you set it down. 

TUCK-AWAY STRAPS 

 

Most backpacks leave straps dangling when you're not wearing it on your back. We've designed a slot where you can tuck the straps in so they stay out of the way. It's a small detail that makes it easier to carry the Air Porter Backapck by the handle, and it gives the backpack a cleaner look.  

COMMUNITY-DESIGNED TRAVEL BAGS

 

We love involving customers in community-design projects because their input often leads to entirely new collections. When we set out to design the Next Generation In-flight Carry and the In-flight Personal Item, we ended up with two types of carry-on bags: the Air Porter (stands up underneath an airline seat) and the Air Duffel (personal item carry-on compliant). 

 

Customers wanted a third type of carry-on for longer trips: a backpack. The larger Air Travel Backpack complies with carry-on requirements and can be placed in the overhead bin. The new, smaller Air Porter Backpack complies with airline personal item requirements and can be placed under the seat in front of you.  Both carry tech gear and several days of clothing. 

 

All bags in the Air Travel Collection include special details to make travel comfortable, organized, and more convenient from takeoff to touchdown.  

THE AIR TRAVEL COLLECTION 

 

The bags and accessories in the Air Travel Collection are designed to be carried on board. Some can fit under the seat in front, in the seat back pocket, or in the overhead bin. They meet most airlines' carry-on size requirements so you can avoid checking in luggage.

All have dedicated compartments for holding tech gear so they stay separated from clothes and accessories. The Collection includes the large Air Travel Backpack, the smaller Air Porter Backpack, Air Duffel, Air Porter Brief, and the Air Caddy.
